The Cost of Choice (The Machine)

Lbena T-Michael

Cosmic intervention.

Paralysis of self.

I dream of my own autonomy.

Farewell to the forbidden,

A forgotten cause

That illuminated my monotony.

A selfish word to heal my wounds

Is the beginning of all atrocities.

Yet selfish mouths remain full

Of all of life’s commodities.

Oppression of choice.

Freedom to feel,

Masked by numbing agencies—

Slipped into the mouths of infants…

A foolproof philosophy.

Cascading velocity.

The Kool-Aid is just not hot to me—

Though I might burn my tongue due to my curiosity.

Patience, my love; ensure you’re choosing wisely.

We’re blind to the fire while choking on its exhaust—

You see, the truth lies in the cost of our autonomy.

Perspectives…
