Rooted in the Inevitable

Lbena T-Michael

Lightning strikes a tree.

Electricity bleeds

from the branches to the leaves,

shrivelling them up to a crisp

before they nosedive into the grieved soil.

On the incident’s eve,

the tree believed a storm was coming.

The roots sensed it.

Dark clouds were detected.

Cemented into the ground remained the tree,

without feet to leave the scene.

Plus, where else is a tree meant to be?

But rooted still,

and fed by the same sky that strikes it?
